break from editing photos

Whenever I’m about to edit 200, 300+ photos, I really have to set the mood. I don’t love editing photos. I mean, I enjoy the result… but it’s really painstakingly time consuming because the perfectionist in me comes out. So I usually put it off for a few days. Today I woke up around noon and knew there wasn’t a chance my girlfriend would get out of bed for a good four hours at least, so I decided today is the day.

I ate some leftover pizza, grabbed a soda and opened Photoshop and iTunes. I never get to listen to Tegan and Sara because the gee-eff hates them, but I’m happily listening to them now while she dozes in the other bedroom.

Two winters ago I had Tegan and Sara playing on my iPod CONSTANTLY. And I was always outside because my apartment was kind of awkward (roommate problems), and I did a lot of research in the old psych building. I didn’t really know anyone then, I hardly spent any time socially, but I remember that winter very fondly. I think there’s something about the cold, being in a really old building, and feeling like I was doing something really important. At the time I was entering data on the current self-injury research experiments that were going on. It solidified everything I knew I wanted to accomplish in life. And I’ve strayed from that… I haven’t been in the self-injury lab in forever and I haven’t applied to any grad schools. :/

I’m not unhappy though–far from it. I’m just painfully aware of the growing space between where I am now academically and where I’d like to be. I’m spending a lot of time on a loved hobby though, and right now, that’s important too. Okay, back to photos now. I was just taking a break to collect my thoughts.

i’m in love

I’m in LOVE with my new purse that I got in Boston. It’s HUGE. Yesterday I walked (instead of biked) to class, just so I could carry it. It fit my sweater, mittens, textbook, leotard, tights, ballet shoes, a pair or shorts, and everything that I normally carry in a normal purse.

Occasionally, I’ll come across new shoes or a new bag or something and love it so much that I want it around me always. It’s probably not healthy… like, the first time I got completely sequined ballet flats, I put them next to my bed at night so I could fall asleep looking at them. Creepy? Idk.
